Welcome to our charity organization
When was the Organisation established and why?
Pukar Disability Resource Centre has been established since April 1998 by the founder of the organisation Poppy Tanna, who was physically disabled herself, as she was wheelchair bound. Poppy used to work for Action for Blind and through that service she became aware of the need for a service for the BME disabled people and their families in the Preston area. That was the start of her journey to establish a service that would be culturally sensitive towards the needs of the ethnic minority, diverse communities in Preston.
'Pukar' is the 'voice' (in Gujarati) of disabled ethnic minority people in Preston.
